What is Derival?

Derival is a Haymarket, VA small-business automation service run by Matt Blaser. The name comes from what we do: we derive practical solutions from the systems a business already runs on. That means simple automations, connections, and AI helpers (inbox sorting, form-to-CRM, lead follow-ups, receipt tracking, AI voice agents) for owners without a tech person, serving Haymarket, Gainesville, Manassas, Warrenton, and Northern Virginia.

01 / What we set up

Small fixes. A lighter workload.

Start with the repetitive work that slows you down. Build a simpler way to get it done.

A calmer inbox

Email systems that sort, prioritize, and help draft replies so you can focus on what needs you.

Connected systems

Connections between your forms, CRM, spreadsheets, calendars, and the other systems your business already runs on.

AI voice agents

We set up an AI voice agent that answers your line, handles the common questions, and lets you know about callers who need you.

Practical systems that reduce repetitive work.

02 / What this can look like

Everyday tasks, simplified.

Illustrative examples. The details depend on your systems and how you work.

Following up on a new inquiry

The manual work
Copy contact details into your CRM, write a reply, and remember to follow up.

A simpler process
A form sends the details to your CRM, prepares a reply for your review, and creates a follow-up reminder.

Less copying between apps. A clear next step for each inquiry.

Keeping up with expenses

The manual work
Collect receipts from your inbox and enter them into a spreadsheet one at a time.

A simpler process
Receipt details go into a review sheet, with suggested categories and a weekly summary to check.

One place to review expenses, with fewer manual entries.

Catching a missed call

The manual work
A call comes in while you’re busy, goes to voicemail, and gets returned hours later, if you remember.

A simpler process
An AI voice agent answers, handles the common questions, and texts you a short summary of who called and what they need.

Fewer missed callers. A clear summary to follow up on.

Built for small businesses

You shouldn’t need a full-time tech person to make your systems work.

For small business owners and teams who are tired of repetitive work and want things to run more smoothly, without hiring a full-time tech person or learning a dozen new apps.

03 / How it works

One process at a time.

You’ll get a clear scope and timeline before work begins.

01

03

We build it

We handle the technical part, built around the way your business already works.

04

Test and sign off

We test it with you, adjust what’s needed, and hand it over with clear documentation once you sign off.

Need help after handoff? Some services offer an optional monthly support plan.

Matt Blaser, founder of Derival
The person behind Derival

Meet Matt.

We’re a veteran-owned business.

Derival was founded by Matt Blaser, an electrical engineer and Army veteran.

Matt has always liked figuring out how things work and finding a better way to do them. He already runs the systems behind his wife’s photography business and their family rental business.

That’s why we started Derival. The name says how we work: we derive solutions from the systems a business already runs on, instead of piling on new software. We enjoy helping business owners connect those systems, cut out repetitive work, and find useful ways to use AI. We want to build things that are easy to use and actually worth the time and money you put into them.

Before we start

Know what you’re getting.

We’ll agree on the work, costs, timeline, and handoff before you commit.

The First Fix

One process, set up for you. We pick the task that costs you the most time and automate it, usually in 1–3 weeks.

What does a project cost?

It depends on what you need. After a free 20-minute process review, we’ll send you a scope and quote before any work starts.

Will I need extra software subscriptions?

Maybe. We’ll build on the systems your business already runs on where we can, and flag any extra subscription or usage costs up front.

Who owns the accounts and systems?

You keep control of your business accounts. We’ll explain what you’re getting and which outside services it needs before we start.

What happens if something breaks?

Get in touch and we’ll work out what needs fixing. We’ll agree up front on included support and what extra maintenance would cost. Connected apps sometimes change, so updates may be needed.

Do I need to understand the technical side?

No. We’ll walk you through how it works and leave you with instructions you can refer back to.

Should you hire a consultant or set up Zapier yourself?
